Mrs. Agnes Chiu, a native of Hong Kong, received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine (UCI), majoring in Social Ecology with a Criminal Justice specialization. In 1991, Mrs. Chiu graduated and obtained the Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law, one of the top law schools in the United States.
After being admitted to the California State Bar in 1992, Mrs. Chiu worked for the now-retired Justice Vaino Spencer of the California Court of Appeals, Second Appellate District. She then joined the law firm Gilbert, Kelly, Crowley & Jennet as an associate attorney, practicing employment law and insurance defense litigation.
In 1995, Mrs. Chiu started her law practice. Mrs. Chiu utilizes her court and litigation experience to assist businesses and clients to meet their various legal needs. In 1996, Mrs. Chiu began serving as a panel arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mrs. Chiu is sincere and experienced in litigation.
Mrs. Chiu received her Master's Degree in Biblical Studies (M.A. 2010) and her Doctor of Philosophy degree(Ph.D. 2017) from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. From July 2016 to December 2019, Mrs. Chiu was the associate professor at China Evangelical Seminary North America, teaching Systematic Theology, Christian Ethics, and Public Theology.
Mrs. Chiu is a learned scholar of theologian Abraham Kuyper. She continues her research at the Vrije Universiteit, the Netherlands. To focus on research and writing on Kuyper, since 2020, Mrs. Chiu became an adjunct professor to spend more time writing. Meanwhile, she continues to use her legal knowledge to serve the community.
Mrs. Chiu can speak and write fluent Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese) and English. She can also read Dutch.
In the past, Mrs. Chiu had served in various capacities in the community:
Panel Arbitrator with the Los Angeles Superior Court
Admitted to Supreme Court and all courts of California
Admitted to practice law before the Ninth Circuit of the Federal United States Courts
Board Member of the Chinese Herald Christian Crusades (1997 to 2016)
Member of the Chinese Evangelical Free Church of Monterey Park, California
Co-chairperson of the Ethnic Minority Relations Committee of the State Bar of California (2000-2001)
Co-chairperson of the Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance, Los Angeles, California (1997-1998)
General Counsel for the Hong Kong School Alumni Federation, Los Angeles, California (1999-2002)
General Counsel for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles, California (1997-1998)
